This piece is an original three-layer reduction lino print, printed manually on heavyweight 300gsm Snowdon 1000mm x 700mm paper using a large-scale Victorian Alexandra printing press. It is sold unframed and unmounted, signed by the artist in pencil with edition number and title at the foot of the print. Edition of 60.
(The total edition number of 60 also includes different colourways entitled Three Sisters, Glencoe – Heather, Three Sisters, Glencoe – Evening, Three Sisters, Glencoe – Sunset, Three Sisters, Glencoe – Autumn and Three Sisters, Glencoe – Storm, printed from the same reduction lino block.)
The image depicts the three summits on the Western side of the valley of Glencoe in Scotland, namely (left to right) Beinn Fhada (towering over Coire Gabhail, the hidden valley), Gearr Aonach (looming in shadow in this image) and Aonach Dubh (the site, high by the skyline, of Ossian’s Cave) from the vicinity of the Meeting of the Three Waters at the head of Glencoe; overlooking the Road to the Isles of the West Coast of Scotland and the site of the notorious Glencoe massacre of 1692.
