Description
Hand thrown raku fired large white teardrop shape bottle by Chris Hawkins
Size: 26cmT x 16cmW
Raku fired in a clear glaze on a white clay body, it is fired in a small gas kiln to around 1,000 degrees centigrade. Taken from the kiln red hot, it is held in the air, waiting for the glaze to craze, and the final reveal after scrubbing off the carbon deposits is like unwrapping a present every single time. Each step, from the glowing kiln to the sawdust bed, can be a balance between control and unpredictability creating completely random crazing.
It’s fascinating how each step in raku firing— removing from the kiln at high temperatures to the careful handling and cooling—contributes to the final piece’s unique character
