Description
The Idol, Brimham Rocks (sandstone)
Original lino print
Image size: 500mm x 500mm
This piece is an original three-layer reduction lino print, printed by hand on heavyweight 250gsm Canaletto 1000mm x 700mm paper using a large-scale Victorian Alexandra printing press. It is sold unframed and unmounted, signed by the artist in pencil with edition number and title The Idol, Brimham Rocks) at the foot of the print.
This print depicts the amazing Idol Rock, one of the weird and wonderfully shaped Brimham Rocks, set in dramatic moorland just outside Harrogate in North Yorkshire. Brimham Rocks is composed of Millstone Grit sandstone, sculpted by the weather over millions of years. Idol Rock is perhaps the most easily recognisable of all the giant formations of Brimham Rocks, as its huge bulk weighing thousands of tons rests preposterously on a comparatively tiny pyramid of rock at its base.
This print forms part of a short two-print series, with The Idol, Brimham Rocks (sandstone) and as such the two are beguiling companion pieces.
