Description
Inspiration and Making: I live near a nature reserve where there is a glade of Hawthorn trees. I enjoy sitting with them and observing the twisting trunks, gnarly textures and freedom of form; so responding to these trees has been a natural progression in this collection of work. Each vessel is made using a buff clay with grog inclusions, fired to stoneware temperature and decorated with wild clay slips and underglaze to enhance the bark knots and textures. The internal space is covered with a white glaze making them water tight for fresh flowers. Two vessels are available, if you would like more images sent to you before purchasing, please email me studio@sonyawilkinsceramics.com

Sustainability: Where possible, I once fire my vessels, meaning they have a lower carbon foot-print. I use green energy to run my electric kilns and enjoy pit firing when appropriate. Many of the clays I use are mindfully foraged from local areas and I also up-cycle discarded clays from local schools.
