Mini Sapling Tree Vessel

Inspiration and Making: This ‘Mini Tree Vessel’ has been made in response to the energy and spirit of a young Poplar Tree (sapling). The form was thrown in fine porcelain, my fingers teasing the rim upwards, allowing it to ripply intuitively. Wild clay slips provide a sunset background of colour and a kiwi glaze depicts the branches of the growing tree. The energy of growth is further represented by conducting wires woven through the porcelain reaching for the sky. The internal space has been covered with a clear glaze, making it water tight for functional use. The base is inscribed with my handwritten ‘S’ logo.

Sustainability: Where possible, I once fire my vessels, meaning they have a lower carbon foot-print. I use green energy to run my electric kilns and enjoy pit firing when appropriate. Many of the clays I use are mindfully foraged from local areas and I also up-cycle discarded clays from local schools.
